Monique began riding horses at the age of 3, where her mum introduced her to pony club on the lead, on her little fat welsh mountain pony, Casper! Monique found Pony Club fun and she was able to try her hand at many disciplines and competed at State level in Mounted Games— Jumping, Equitation, Dressage and Eventing.

When she turned 16, Monique decided she was most interested in the discipline of dressage and was very keen to take it more seriously. Monique and her mum found Jacqui Van Montfrans and they began regular lessons with her. In less than 3 years of tuition, Jacqui has brought Monique from a novice rider to a competitive FEI young rider, where Monique was privileged to be on the Equestrian Australia National Youth Development squad for dressage.

In 2014, Monique started competing at Inter 1 level and throughout 2015 begun competing in Interstate CDI-Y competition.
